Santa Cruz Sports Club, Barataria Ball Players, and QPCC grabbed the attention in the opening two rounds of the 2026 North Zone T20 Tournament.
The tournament burst into life on 18 April with an action-packed opening two rounds.
There were close finishes, standout individual performances, and early signs of a tightly contested competition ahead of the knockout stages.
On the opening day at the Brian Lara Recreation Ground saw a high-scoring thriller as the Santa Cruz Sports Association posted a formidable 192 for 9, powered by Devon Sween’s 74 and useful contributions from Ayden Antoine (27*). Shannon responded bravely through Reshawn Guevara’s 75, but fell short at 173 for 8, handing Santa Cruz a 19-run victory.
At Maracas, the match between Queen’s Park Cricket Club and North Side Future Stars went down to the wire. QPCC made 152, with Aarush Shavili top-scoring on 32, before their bowlers held firm in a tense defence. North Side finished on 149, losing by just three runs despite a solid 26 from Kwesi Fournillier.
The Barataria Oval fixture saw a one-sided affair as Barataria Ball Players dismantled Bourg Mulatresse CCC for just 81, before comfortably chasing 83 for 2 in just 10 overs. Kevis John’s unbeaten 30 led the charge in an eight-wicket win.
Meanwhile at Glenora Grounds, Savannah Boys edged Glenora Sports by four runs in another close encounter. Vijay Teemal (47) and Jai Teemal (44) anchored their side to 149 for 8, which proved just enough despite a fighting 60 from Kenroy Williams in reply.
Meanwhile, Round 2 delivered fireworks, especially at Maracas where North Side Future Stars posted 161 for 6, thanks to Kwesi Fournillier’s 61. However, the day belonged to The Harvard Club, who stormed to 163 for 5 in 17.2 overs, driven by a brilliant unbeaten 108 from Keegan Jones in a five-wicket win.
At Barataria Oval, Barataria Ball Players continued their dominance with a crushing 71-run win over Ebony Sports Club. Joey Samuel (60) and Marlon Phillip (53) powered them to 159, while their bowlers restricted the opposition to 88 for 6.
The Queen’s Park Savannah produced another thriller as Invincible posted 158 for 9, but Savannah Boys chased down 159 for 3 in 16.1 overs, with Sameer Ali (56*) and Jai Teemal (49*) steering a composed finish.
In another close contest, Combine All Stars edged Shannon by three wickets after successfully chasing 135 for 7 at the Queen’s Park Savannah.
After two rounds, Barataria Ball Players and Santa Cruz Sports Association have emerged as early pace-setters with strong all-round performances, while Savannah Boys and Queen’s Park Cricket Club remain firmly in contention after tight wins.
With Round 3 fixtures looming on 26 April, including key clashes such as Santa Cruz vs Combine All Stars and QPCC against The Harvard Club, the race for semi-final places is already heating up.
The tournament moves into its third round with several unbeaten and one-loss teams still in the mix, setting up a crucial phase before the quarterfinals on 2 May, semi-finals on 3 May, and the final scheduled for 9 May.
If the opening rounds are anything to go by, fans can expect more last-over finishes, standout centuries, and shifting momentum as the North Zone T20 battle intensifies.
