EYM make impressive start to North Zone 40-over

Group B Matches

Newly crowned North Zone league champions El Socorro Youth Movement (EYM) made an impressive start to their 40-over campaign with a 107-run win over QPCC North Zone on Sunday 7 April, at Boundary Road.

Ryan Inniss slammed 138 off 116 balls and put on 152 for the third wicket with Richard Ali (60) in powering EYM to 273 for 7.

Shakeem Prince (3/23) and Akil Timothy (3/17) then reduced QPCC North Zone to 79 for 7.

Dillon Bachan (41 not out) and Adrian Burke (20) added 61 for the eighth wicket to add respectability to the score as QPCC fell to 166 for 9 in their 40 overs to lose by 107 runs.

Also in Group B, Paragon Sports and Cultural Club and Barataria Ball Players strode to comfortable wins in their opening round matches, also played on Sunday 7 April.

At Brian Lara Recreation Ground, Santa Cruz, Paragon fired out Invincible for 71 in 17 overs with only Ryan Ali (33) offering late resistance.

Opening bowlers Franklyn Rouse (4/19) and Kennard Maison (3/29) tormented the Invincible batters, with two run outs aiding the Paragon cause.

Paragon earned the win in 11.2 overs with Antonio Lochan (18 not out) and Kevon Surzano (12) guiding their team home.

Barataria Ball Players whipped Shannon Sports Club by 68 runs at Barataria Recreation Ground, Sixth Avenue, Barataria.

Barataria were in a spot of bother at 76 for 5 before Vaughn Browne (37) and Kevis John (34 not out) added 55 for the sixth wicket.

Bally Rajaram (3/20) and Sylvon Cummings (3/21) shared six wickets for Shannon.

Chasing 169 for victory, Shannon lapsed to 23 for 4 before Kelvin John (39) and Neil Cumberbatch (24) resisted.

However, Browne took 4 for 19 and Derron Wilson 3 for 32 to bowl out Shannon for 100 in 22.5 overs.

Group A Matches

In Group A, Glenora Sports Club were impressive in an eight wicket win over Pole 9, while Bourg Mulatresse CCC and North Side Future Stars also completed first round wins.

At St Mary’s College Grounds, Glenora spinners Stefon Bissoon (4/27) and Rickford Mohammed (3/20) bowled out Pole 9 for 118 runs.

Juan Carlos Narine top-scored with 40 not out before Bisson and Rickford combined to take the last five wickets for just 13 runs.

Glenora knocked off the runs in only 12.2 overs with Jesse Rowland (48 not out) and Kristoff St John (33) putting on an unbroken 62 for the third wicket.

At Brian Lara Recreation Ground, North Side All Stars successfully defended 114 to beat Santa Cruz Sports by 23 runs.

In an innings littered with starts, only Ramon Diaz (27 not out) played a significant hand for the North Side outfit, batting at number nine.

Christopher Kashma Mitchell (5/42) had the best bowling figures for the home team to set up a possible victory.

However, the Santa Cruz batters faltered badly and were bowled out for 91, with Keston Malchan scoring 29.

Kendall Guerra took 4 for 18 while Akiel Guerra had 3 for 10 to register victory for North Side Future Stars.

Finally, at Barataria Recreation Ground, Bourg Mulatresse CCC whipped Savannah Boys by 60 runs.

Kerron Balbosa and Delaney Hinds joint top-scored with 23 for Bourg Mulatresse before they lost four wickets for three runs to fall to 155 for 9 in 38 overs.

Ameer Ali took 3 for 17, while Chetram Ramlal (2/7) and Riaff Ali (2/11) shared four wickets.

Savannah Boys lapsed to 27 for 4 before Ramlal hit 31 to bring his team back into the contest.

However, Sheldon Homer-Bayley took three late wickets to end their fight back at 95 in 25.1 overs.

Round 2 of the North Zone 40-over tournament is scheduled for 13-14 April.

Pole 9 118 in 25.1 overs (Juan Carlos Narine 40*; Stefan Bissoon 4/27, Rickford Mohammed 3/20) vs. Glenora Sports Club 119/2 in 12.2 overs (Jesse Roland 48*, Kristoff St John 33*, Keon Mason 28; Michael Shui Fang 1/23). Glenora Sports Club beat Pole 9 by eight wickets.

Barataria Recreation Ground

Bourg Mulatresse CCC 155/9 in 38 overs (Kerron Balbosa 23, Delaney Hinds 23; Ameer Ali 3/17, Chateram Ramlal 2/7, Riaff Ali 2/11) vs. Savannah Boys 95 in 25.1 overs (Chetram Ramlal 31; Sheldon Homer Bayley 3/29, Orlando Toppin 2/12). Bourg Mulatresse won by 60 runs.
