EYM crowned North Zone League champions

El Socorro Youth Movement (EYM) whipped QPCC North Zone by an innings and 35 runs to take the North Zone league title at Boundary Road, Aranguez.

Richard Ali’s monumental 159 plus nine wickets for Shakeem Prince took EYM to the title.

North Side Future Stars and Savannah Boys were tied on 88 points, with Paragon Sports and Cultural Club fourth on 87 points.

The Division One title is still undecided after Combine All Stars Club moved to the top of the table with a six-point lead over Pole Nine.

Both teams still have games to be decided.

Combine All Stars game against Ebony Sports Club will take place on Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th April at the North Zone Ground, while Pole 9 game against St Mary’s will take place on Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th April at St. Mary’s College Ground. Sunday 7th April will mark the completion of the last day in the game between Bourg Mulatresse and Pole 9.

At Boundary Road, Shakeem Prince took 6 for 16 to help bowl out QPCC for 72 before Ali’s 159 fired EYM to 297.

Facing a deficit of 225 runs on first innings, QPCC fell for 190 with Prince taking 3 for 38 and Akil Timothy 4 for 80.

EYM ended with 161 points from their seven matches, a whopping 73 points more than second-placed North Side Future Stars.

At Glenora Sports Club Grounds, North Side took six points from their drawn match against Glenora to hold on to second place with 88 points.

Kenroy Williams had another superb game for Glenora, taking 8 for 43 to bowl out North Side for 171.

With the bat in hand, he scored 54 in Glenora’s 224 for 7 before taking 4 for 44 to bowl out North Side for 150.

Andy Alexander took 5 for 61 for Glenora, while Kristophe St John (58*) and Keon Mason (65) got half-centuries in the draw.

The new champions will now play UWI in a play-off on 13-14 April to determine which team will progress to the Premiership II division.

At Diego Martin Central Secondary Grounds, Savannah Boys earned seven points to draw level with North Side on 88 points, despite a loss on first innings to Paragon Sports.

Paragon bowled out Savannah Boys for 76 with Kennard Maison (6/23) and Franklyn Rouse (4/21) wreaking havoc.

Kevon Surzano (52) and N. Chadee (51) then powered Paragon to 202, a lead of 126.

Rouse then returned to take 5 for 52 to fire out Savannah Boys for 174 and set up a victory target of 49.

Paragon Sports were 30 for 4 before time ran out with the match drawn.

Finally, at Barataria Recreation Ground, Barataria Ball Players closed out their league season with an innings and four-run win over Santa Cruz Sports Association.

Barataria’s bowlers set up the win with Vaughn Browne having match figures of 8 for 81, and Carl Vialva getting 5 for 40.

Barataria’s Isiah Cains (65) and Marlon Phillip (41) muscled their team to 224 for 7 in 55 overs.

In Division One action, there was no play in two matches.

Combine All Stars takes over the lead from inactive Pole 9

Pole 9’s match against St Mary’s College was postponed, while Fatima College North Zone forfeited their match against Bourg Mulatresse.

Combined All Stars moved into the top spot in Division One with a first-innings victory over Shannon at the Queen’s Park Savannah.

They started strongly with Yousif Ramlogan (46) top-scoring in an innings of 205 for 8, with K John taking 6 for 47.

Ernil Ryan (3/9) and Ramlogan (3/29) combined to fire out Shannon Sports for 143 to earn a healthy first innings lead of 62 runs.

Combined All Stars then declared their second innings on 89 for 3, with Ray Campbell getting 51 not out, and setting Shannon Sports 152 for victory.

Shannon got to within 11 runs of victory when time ran out and the match was drawn.

Finally, at Invincible Grounds, the home team won on first innings thanks to Shamir Ali’s century.

Invincible had bowled out Ebony for 140 with Miguel Mahabir (4/27) and Ryan Ali (3/17) leading the way.

Ali then struck 102 as Invincible opened up a 68-run lead on first innings.

Batting a second time, Ebony was 59 for 5 when the draw was declared.

With the title still undecided, Pole 9 and St Mary’s will play their match next weekend (6-7 April), simultaneously with Combine All Stars and Ebony.
