The North Zone Cricket Council 40 Over Sunday league competition entered its 3rd round on Sunday 10 April. The round saw Four fixtures being played in the 10-team competition.
Police vs Fatima
Police Sports Club travelled to Mucurapo Road for their encounter with Fatima College.
Captain Nicholas Jagmohan won the toss and elected to bat first. Police blasted the Fatima bowling to amass 276/7 in 35 overs. Jagmohan led from the front, scoring an aggressive 81 off 50 balls to follow his 118 off 73 balls in the previous round 2 match against Glenora. Imran Hosein contributed 53, while Kerron Simmons scored 48.
Bowling for Fatima College, North Zone U19 player Naill Maingot picked up 3/51 from 8 overs, while there was one wicket apiece for Caiden Mack, Adrian Mahase, Jashua Clarke, and Khalfani Clarke.
Fatima’s run chase never picked up steam, losing wickets regularly, handing Police victory by a whopping 137 runs. Only 3 batters got into double figures, Jonty Ramdeen top-scored with 33, Adrian Mahase 29, and Khalfani Clarke 20.
Brian Yearwood picked up 3/19 from 7 overs while Damien Brown and Nicholas Jagmohan took 2 wickets apiece when Police bowled.
Invincible vs Paragon
Paragon won the toss and decided to field first. This decision proved incorrect as Invincible took apart the Paragon bowling at the Police Barracks’ ground. Invincible closed on 311/6 in 34 overs.
Paragon separated opening batters Kevin Singh and Ryan Joseph only after they posted 209 for the opening wicket. Kevin Singh scored 109 in 79 balls, while Joseph made 81 from 82 deliveries. Raphael Ali was the next best Invincible batter with 28.
Marc Pillai was the most successful Paragon bowler with figures of 2/34 from 3 overs.
Paragon did not roll over and die, however, making a fight of the huge total. They were led by Dexter Henry, who scored 100 n/o and Anthony Durrant 83 n/o; the pair came together when the score was a dismal 61/4. Their heroics could not save Paragon as they fell 78 runs short of the total required.
Queen’s Park Cricket Academy vs Pole 9
In this encounter, QPCC asked Pole 9 to take first strike. The San Juan team posted a competitive 198/7. Middle-order batsman Vinny Chaitram top-scored with 62 n/o while opening batsman Ramesh Ramdeen scored 36 and Juan Carlos Narine chipped in with 19.
Bowling for QPCC, Bradley Boodoo snared 3/24 off 8 overs, and Justin Hernandez 2/33 from 7.5 overs.
QPCC lost the early wicket of opener Bradley Boodoo, bowled by Luke Latiff for 3. However, Renaldo Huggins and Ryan Yearwood posted a 114-second wicket partnership to put QPCC in the ascendency. Huggins was eventually run out by Fiaz Mohammed for a top score of 79 off 54 balls with the score 127/2. Yearwood followed soon after for 36 when he was caught by Luke Latiff off Boodesh Dookie when the score was 156.
Justin Hernandez and Josiah Smith then guided QPCC to the target in 26.5 overs. Hernandez scored 22 n/o while Smith got 20 n/o. QPCC won by 6 wickets.
Barataria Ball Players vs Savannah Boys
Barataria Recreation Ground on Sixth Avenue Barataria was the venue of this Group A match. Savannah Boys batted first and got to 171 all out in 33.5 overs. Pradeem Ali top-scored with 36, Praveen Ali got 33, and Riaff Ali 28.
Bowling for Barataria, former North Zone U19, standout Carl Vialva picked up 4/28 in 8 overs while Joey Maharaj picked up 3/36 in 7.5 overs.
The Barataria batting faulted in the run chase and was eventually bowled out for 106 to hand Savannah Boys victory by 65 runs. Isaiah Cain top-scored for Barataria with 23 and Kevis John got 19.
Bowling for Savannah Boys, Chateram Ramlal snared 4/16 in 6.4 overs while Ravi Naidoo picked up 2/26 from 8.1 overs.
