Stafanie Taylor will lead the Cricket West Indies Women’s Senior team in the three T20I and five ODIs series against Pakistan starting June 30. Taylor will have veteran spinner Anisa Mohammed as her deputy.
A West Indies Women “A” team was also selected to play in a historic series against a Pakistan “A” team commencing on the same date as their senior counterparts. The “A” team series consists of three T20s and three One Day games.
Antigua will host the series at the Coolidge Cricket Ground and the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium. The ‘A’ Team matches will precede the Senior team matches in back-to-back “double header” fixtures.
The CWI release said all 28 players selected for the series will be eligible for selection on both teams.
Reniece Boyce, the experienced wicket-keeper/batter, has been named to lead the ‘A’ Team. The two young players from the Windward Islands – 16-year-old left-arm medium pacer, Zaida James and 17-year-old right-arm medium-pacer, Jannillea Glasgow – both called up for the first time to the West Indies Women’s training squad, have now been selected in the ‘A’ team squad after impressing during the pre-series camp.
This series marks the return of the women game for the Caribbean side having last played against England in September 2020.
The CG Insurance T20Is and One Day Internationals will be streamed live along with radio commentary via the WindiesCricket YouTube page.
Though the ladies have been out of competitive games since September 2020, I’m hopeful that their performance against Pakistan in this upcoming series is competitive.
