Joshua Da Silva slammed an unbeaten century in the rain affected four-day warm-up match at the Old Trafford in Manchester on Wednesday.
Da Silva spoke to the North Zone Website before departing for the tour of England as one of the 10 reserves on the Cricket West Indies squad and said “I’m quite comfortable with the selection and intend, now that I have been selected, to stay in the team.” We believe that he is well on his way to acheiving that promise after his 133 n/o off 249 deliveries.
He resumed on his overnight 60 in the final intra-squad match and was not daunted by the intermittent showers that forced lengthy breaks in the match. He led the Jason Holder captained XI to a score of 272 all out having resumed the day on 120 for 5.
He was supported by Raymond Reifer (22) and pacer Alzarri Joseph (38), Joseph being the aggressor during their partnership.
At the close of play the Kraigg Brathwaite led XI were struggling on 112 for 7. The now fully fit Shannon Gabriel bowled with good pace to end the day with three for 34 with four other bowlers taking a wicket a piece.
The first Wisden Trophy Test match West Indies versus England takes place at the Ageas Bowl, Southhampton from July 8-12.
I had the pleasure of being in a zoom interview with this young, aspiring and dedicated cricketer prior to him leaving our shores for England.
During the interview I came to the realization that with the intelligence, confidence and commitment he exhibited, Joshua Da Silva can soon be a mainstay in the West Indies team.
I agree wholeheartedly with this assessment of Joshua. From his early cricketing days at St. Mary’s College it was clear to all who saw him play that he possessed the talent and ability to have a successful career in cricket. Best of luck on the rest of the tour Joshua and may the road ahead be filled with even more success.
