North Zone provided pathway for Amir Jangoo

Trinbago Knight Riders wicketkeeper-batsman Amir Jangoo has described his playing career at youth level in the North Zonal Council of the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board as “really amazing”.

The 22-year-old was North Zone’s captain at U-19 level and he told the TTT News “Response To COVID-19” program this week that it was an experience to cherish.

“It was amazing, really amazing, something I will cherish forever and hopefully I could lead some teams in the future,” said Jangoo.

Jangoo also reflected positively on his time as North Zone skipper: “I always looked upon myself as a leader and I got the opportunity at U-19 level. I think I led the team to the semi-finals as well.”

The former Merry Boys player added that representing the North Zone was “special” and influenced his cricket career greatly.

“To be honest with you, it was the biggest thing for me at that age, being able to represent my zone was something special for me because I know that past nationals used to do it,” said Jangoo.

Jangoo, who now represents Queen’s Park Cricket Club, said that North Zone cricket provided the pathway for him to make a name for himself nationally and regionally.

“From there it was a stepping-stone for me to play youth cricket for Trinidad and Tobago and make a name for myself basically,” Jangoo said.

Jangoo played for the Merry Boys club from age 13 (making his senior team debut at 15) before leaving for Queen’s Park in 2020.

Having followed his career from his days at St. Anthony’s College, I can honestly say that Amir has reaped the rewards of all his hard work and dedication. To me, the most admirable thing about him is the way he manages to balance everything that is going on in his life at any given point in time – cricket, education, family, the works! Well done Amir and may the road ahead bring everything you ever dreamt of.
