The North Zone Academy Women will begin their 2026 campaign in the Trinidad and Tobago Women’s Cricket Association 30-Over Tournament with renewed confidence when they face Bess Motors Marchin Patriots in their opening match.
For head coach Kenroy Williams, the fixture represents more than just the first game of the season—it is a chance to showcase the growth of a young programme now entering its second year.
Williams, a former Jamaica youth player who joined the Academy late last season, now has the benefit of a full pre-season with the squad.
The team to a respectable fourth-place finish in their debut campaign, and Williams believes the foundation has been laid for significant improvement.
“I’m looking forward to seeing big improvement from last year,” Williams said.
“The girls are intelligent, and they’ve shown great commitment. The chemistry within the team and the support staff has been excellent.”
North Zone’s development model has focused heavily on unity, discipline and positive energy—values Williams insists are non-negotiable.
The players’ response, he noted, has been encouraging.
“Once you give respect, you receive respect,” he explained.
“We have good support staff, good energy around the group, and the players are buying into what we are building.”
The Academy concept has been in the works for several years, and Williams—well known for his involvement in men’s cricket in Port of Spain—admits there is a special satisfaction in helping shape the women’s programme.
“I feel good every time I come to training and see the effort and commitment from the young ladies,” he said.
“It’s brilliant. The challenge of adapting, developing and analysing the game with them—it’s been rewarding.”
Having already shown promising signs in their inaugural season, North Zone will be keen to start strongly against the Patriots.
A positive result would not only set the tone for the campaign but also underline the steady progress of a team intent on climbing higher this year.
With a full preparation period behind them and a clear emphasis on development, North Zone Academy Women appear ready to turn potential into performance as the new TTWCA 30-over season bowls off.
