Review of Round 2 of North Zone 40 over tournament

Glenora Sports Club, Savannah Boys, and North Side Future Stars won their second match in the 2025 North Zone Cricket Council 40-0ver tournament on Sunday.

Glenora dispatched Invincible by nine wickets, while Savannah Boys were big winners over Bourg Mulatresse.

North Side whipped Ebony Sports by seven wickets to qualify for the tournament’s semifinals.

Barataria Ball Players opened their campaign with a seven-wicket win over Paragon, while Pole 9 rebounded from their opening game loss to register their first win.

Round three is set for 3-4 May, with the semifinals set for 10 May.

In the semifinals, the winner of Group A will play the winner of Group C, while North Side Future Stars will take on the winner of Group D.

At their Queen’s Park Savannah home ground, Glenora Sports Club built on their impressive nine-wicket win over Bourg Mulatresse with another nine-wicket victory over Invincible.

The victory was largely set up by Joshua Clarke’s 5 for 24 and Andy Alexander’s 2 for 13 to bowl out short-handed Invincible for 92.

Ryan Ali hit 33 to boost his team’s total to 92 for 9 in 22.5 overs.

Glenora needed only 49 balls to knock off the 93 runs needed for victory.

Keon Mason hit 50 not out, his second half-century of the tournament, to push his team to the win off 8.1 overs.

Invincible fell to their second straight loss and faces an uphill task to move forward in the tournament.

Savannah Boys were also impressive in their 160-run win over Bourg Mulatresse on the weekend.

They beat Invincible by 162 runs in their opening match, and they started well again with Verune Ramnarine’s 106 leading Savannah Boys to 287 for 8 in 26 overs.

Naresh Persaud (38) and Ravindra Naidoo (37) also made telling contributions, while Benny Hilal (4/78) was the pick of the bowlers for Bourg Mulatresse.

When Bourg Mulatresse batted, they ran into Aneesh Sookoo (3/19) and Chetram Ramlal (2/7), who did the bulk of the damage to restrict them to 127 for 6 in their 26 overs.

Aaron Dass (29), Shane Ramnanan (24), and Delaney Hinds (22*) were the top scorers for Bourg Mulatresse.

Savannah Boys have won two straight games, while Bourg Mulatresse have now lost their opening two fixtures.

North Side Future Stars made it two wins in two, while consigning Ebony Sports to defeat in their opening match.

Ebony mustered 115 in their opening at bat of the tournament, with Javon Charles getting 21.

Claude De Vignes (5/32) and Darrel Dennison (3/21) were the most successful bowlers for North Side Future Stars.

North Side successfully changed down 116 in only 12 overs with Akiel Guerra leading the way with 53 not out.

North Side Future Stars will now play the winner of Group D in the semifinals.

At the Barataria Oval, home team Barataria Ball Players started their campaign with a seven-wicket win over Paragon in a low-scoring match.

Paragon, who were hammered by Santa Cruz by 226 runs in their opening fixture, were again bowled out for a low score.

Clifton Halls got 54 for Paragon in their total of 90 for 8, with Vaughn Browne (3/4) and Derron Wilson (2/18) the main tormentors.

Barataria Ball Players made light work of their chase of 91 for victory with Matthias Ramdular (46) and Sheldon Thomas (25*) taking them home.

Barataria won by 7 wickets with the match lasting only 26.2 overs in total.

Finally, Pole 9 shrugged off their opening round defeat to edge past Harvard by one wicket.

Harvard set a target of 186 for victory with Yohance Kwesi (87) and Andre Yard (47) putting on 119 for the second wicket.

However, Ryan Mohammed’s 5 for 18 and Jai Seeramlal’s 3 for 42 ensured Harvard were bowled out for 185 in 30.4 overs.

Riaz Mohammed hit 73 to take Pole 9 to 150 for 6, and they lost their ninth wicket with two runs to go.

However, Ryan Mohammed (4*) hit the winning runs to take Pole 9 to an important win.

Harvard were playing their first match of the 40-over tournament.
