El Socorro Youth Movement’s (EYM) hopes of winning the North Zone treble took another hit after they fell to a 15-run loss to Glenora Sports Club in a rain-affected match on Saturday at Diego Martin.
Both teams had lost their opening matches with EYM losing to swashbuckling Paragon Sports and Glenora fluffing their run-chase before falling to Barataria Ball Players in a Super Over thriller.
With rain reducing the match to a five-over-a-side affair, Leonardo Julien gave another glimpse of his immense talent with a punishing 37 off 14 balls to drive Glenora to 89 for 2.
He struck four fours and launched three sixes while putting on 54 for the first wicket with skipper Kenroy Williams in only 16 balls.
Williams also smashed three sixes in an eight-ball 21 putting on 30 of the second wicket with Mikkel Govia in 12 balls.
Govia, the newest addition to the St Lucia Kings franchise, belted two sixes as Glenora battered 89 for 2 at 17.80 runs an over.
Set a Herculean task to earn their first win of the tournament, EYM stalwarts Richard Ali (28) and Keon Issac fashioned 42 off 3.1 overs.
The powerful Isaac blasted three sixes and a four in his 33 off 14 balls but EYM could only get to 74 for 2 in their five overs.
Summarized scores: Glenora 89 for 2 in five overs (Julien 37, Williams 21, Govia 20*; Issac 1/7, Timothy 1/11) vs. EYM 74 for 2 in five overs (Isaac 33*, Ali 28; St John 2/13). Glenora won by 15 runs (DLS Method)
Meanwhile, Dejourn Charles nailed the first century of the tournament as Barataria Ball Players kept their place on top of Group B with a spanking 52-run win over Combine All-Stars on Friday.
The Tobago all-rounder was in scintillating form, hitting six fours and nine sixes in a superlative 117 not out off only 54 balls.
He put on 102 for the third wicket with Camillo Carimbocas (36) to inspire Barataria to 191 for 5 in their 20 overs.
Combine All Stars had a troubled start with Derron Wilson taking out punishing openers Mario Belcon (1) and Frank Simons (3) cheaply.
They fought on valiantly with Ray Campbell (36) and Yousif Ramlogan keeping Barataria busy on the field with a partnership of 98 for the fourth wicket.
However, Player of the Match Charles came on to dismiss Ramlogan for 73 off 48 balls to snuff out the Combine All-Stars challenge.
Wilson took 3 for 25 while Charles had 1 for 14 for the group leaders Barataria.
Summarized scores: Barataria Ball Players 191 for 5 in 20 overs (Charles 117, Carimbocas 36; Pierre 2/24) vs. Combine All Stars 139 for 9 in 20 overs (Ramlogan 73, Campbell 36; Wilson 3/25). Barataria won by 52 runs.
