El Socorro Youth Movement (EYM) narrowly missed out on their fifth straight win in the Senior Division of the North Zone as Paragon Sports and Cultural Club held them to a draw at Boundary Road.
EYM bowled out Paragon for 163 with Keon Issac (3 for 38) and S Prince (3 for 53) bossing the visitors’ batters.
Clifton Halls (42) and Iqwe Craig (42) got the bulk of the runs for Paragon.
El Socorro opened up a 60-run lead on first innings after Richard Ali (71) and Shaquille Prince (54) got half-centuries.
When Paragon batted a second time, they could only muster 102 as Prince took 6 for 26 and Isaac 2 for 8.
Set only 43 for victory, EYM got to 28 without loss in three overs before time ran out.
El Socorro got 16 points for the draw and now has 119 points in their five games for the season.
Paragon got five points and now sits in fourth place on 64 points.
At North Coast grounds, home team North Side Future Stars moved up to second place with a 128-run win over struggling Barataria Ball Players.
Claude De Vignes starred with the ball for North Side Future Stars, taking 8 for 30 and 5 for 20 to fire out Barataria for 83 for 8 declared and 116 in their two innings.
Darrell Dennison took 3 for 29 while Akeil Guerra (41) helped North Side to 202 and 116 in their two turns at the crease.
Barataria bowler Derron Wilson had 4 for 62 and 6 for 55, while Carl Vialva took 4 for 26 and 3 for 47 in the loss.
North Side Future Stars picked up 24 points for the win and moved up to 75 points, while Barataria sits in seventh place with 36 points.
At Brian Lara Recreation Ground, Savannah Boys took first innings points off home team Santa Cruz Sports Association and now sit only three points behind second-placed North Side Future Stars.
Riaff Ali was the star of the match for Savannah Boys, as he scored 148 and took 5 for 37 in the win.
His century and fifties by Praveen Ali (69) and Amesh Sookhoo (51) powered Savannah Boys to 322 for 9 declared.
Kashma Mitchell (5 for 6)was the lone bright light for Santa Cruz with the ball.
Santa Cruz did enough with the bat to get the draw as they got to 198 in 44.4 overs.
Savannah Boys are now third on 72 points, with Santa Cruz still at the bottom of the table with 21 points.
At St Anthony’s College Grounds, Glenora Sports Club broke a dry spell by winning first innings points against QPCC North Zone.
Jesse Roland hit a majestic 140 while Kristoff St John (63) and Keon Mason (55) got half-centuries in Glenora’s 323 for 6 declared.
Glenora had bowled out QPCC for 183 before the Parkites rallied to 188 for 7 to save the game.
Kenroy Williams was brilliant with the ball for Glenora, taking 6 for 36 and 3 for 53 in the match.
Glenora picked up 17 points in the match and has rallied to 43 points and sixth place in the table, while QPCC stayed in fifth place.
Pole 9 lead stays ahead of Shannon Sports
In Division One play, Pole 9 continues to lead the standings with Combine All Stars and Bourg Mulatresse moving up the rankings after completing outright wins in Round 5.
At the Queen’s Park Savannah, leaders Pole 9 took first innings points after scoring an imposing 314 in their first innings.
Michael Shan Fang (68 not out) and Amir Datoo got half-centuries for Pole 9 while Ryan Ali took 6 for 71 for Invincible.
The home team was bowled out for 174 in their first innings and secured the draw with a second innings effort of 142 for 5.
Shamir Ali’s 84 was critical in Invincible’s survival with Luke Ali (3 for 61) getting the best figures of the match for Pole 9 in the draw.
At the Queen’s Park Savannah, Shannon Sports Club held on to second place after taking first innings points from Fatima College
Shannon bowled out Fatima College for 128 and then replied with 203 for 8 to take a 75-run first-innings lead.
Fatima would get the draw with Dwayne Bourne, who had 58 in the first innings, getting 78 in the second.
Sylvon Cummings (4/32), Nigel Benjamin (3/16), and D Cumberbatch (4/34) were the best bowlers for Shannon, while Kaiden Pollard took 4 for 58 for Fatima.
Shannon are 10 points behind leader Savannah Boys in the points standings.
At the Queen’s Park Savannah, Yousuf Ramlogan hit 110 not out to help Combine All Stars to a 10-wicket win over St Mary’s College North Zone.
After skittling St Mary’s for 111, Combine produced a modest 170 for 7 in their first innings with Ramlogan getting his unbeaten hundred.
St Mary’s then fell for 100 in their second innings to set Combine All Stars 42 for victory.
Rishi Rampersad (5/26) and Anthony Critchlow (3/5) did the damage.
Combine got the runs in 5.2 overs to secure victory and move up to third in the table on 68 points.
Finally, Bourg Mulatresse CCC secured their first outright win of the season to move to within two points of fourth-placed Invincible Sports Club.
The home team produced a punishing 327 for 1 with Anthony Durrant getting 111 before Aaron Dass (107 not out) and Kerron Barbosa (67 not out) put a beating on the Ebony Sports bowlers.
Ebony were bowled out for 148 and 65 to lose the game by an innings and 114 runs.
Barbosa took a hattrick in his 7 for 9, while Orlando Topping had 4 for 30 in Bourg Mulatresse’s first outright win of the season.
