Former West Indies player Bryan Davis is a pleased man following the four-wicket win by Jason Holder and his team versus England on Sunday 12 July.
The first of the 3 test match series was played at the Ageas in Southhampton and provided the world with a cracker of a test match.
Davis told the North Zone Website “I am a believer in test cricket because of all the elements involved in a game and you saw it at its best in this game.”
He was also a former West Indies manager and indicated that the management of the team has also to be commended for the performance.
“I believe that the coach Phil Simmons has a lot to do with that… to ensure the boys have the positive approach and attitude to get to play properly in the conditions,” he added.
Davis is of the belief that stand-in captain Ben Stokes made a grave error in batting first and may have misread the pitch. He says this was rather surprising as England had used that venue to prepare which should have given them the advantage.
Just like every West Indian he’s optimistic that the West Indies will continue to play well and hopefully go on to retain the Wisden Trophy.
