TEAMS JOCKEY FOR POSITIONS IN NORTH ZONE 40 OVERS

Rain played spoiled sport last weekend as all matches in the North Zone Cricket Council’s 40 overs competition were abandoned due to the inclement weather. Hopefully, teams will have better weather this weekend as they push to finish in the top ten and thereby qualify for the ensuing T20 competition.

Invincible CC sits at the top of Group A with two wins from two matches, both those matches took place on the opening weekend. Police, who should have played their first match this past weekend, are second in the group with one point from their abandoned game against Paragon. Bourg Mulatresse CCC and Paragon are third and fourth with one point and zero points, respectively. Bourg or Book, as they are more commonly known, completed one game, a loss to Invincible and the ‘washout’ against Police. Paragon’s only game was a Match Day 1 loss, also to Invincible.

Group Leaders

In Group B, Combine All Stars are top of the group with four points from a win against Pole 9 and a washout against Savannah Boys. Barataria Ball Players are second with three points from a win against Savannah Boys. Savannah Boys are third in Group B with one point, while Pole 9 are fourth with no points.

In Group C, North Coast top this group with four points from a win against Santa Cruz on the opening day and a washout against Glenora. Shannon, who beat Glenora on Match Day 2, are second in the group with three points. Glenora occupies third spot with one point, while Santa Cruz are yet to put some points on the board.

Weekend Matches

Looking ahead to this weekend, both Bourg Mulatresse and Paragon will be looking for their first win in Group A when they lock horns at the Ato Boldon Ground in San Juan on Saturday. The other Group A match features a top of the table clash between Police and Invincible at the Police Barracks on Sunday.

In Group B, Barataria Ball Players will host Combine All Stars at their Barataria home with the hope of going top of the table and on Sunday, Pole 9 will be trying to lift themselves from the cellar position when they meet Savannah Boys, also at the Barataria Recreation Ground.

The Brian Lara Recreation Ground is the venue for action in Group C. On Saturday, North Coast will hope to solidify the top spot with a win against Shannon, and on Sunday Santa Cruz and Glenora will do battle, both with the hopes of making up some ground in the group.

The top team in each group plus the best overall second place team will advance to the semifinals.

Teams will also hope to avoid finishing in the bottom two spots as only the top ten spots in the forty over competition will qualify for the following T20 competition.
