The Scotiabank NextGen Cricket Programme, which consists of both an Under 13 component (presently underway) and an Under 15 component (ended in April), has been designed to help young cricketers refine their skills in the sport of cricket, as well as enhance their life skills, preparing them for future success.
“This programme is engineered to help these young cricketers unlock their full potential on and off the field, creating what we hope will deliver more life opportunities and building resilient mindsets so that they are better able to adapt to changing circumstances,” indicated Gayle Pazos – Senior VP and Managing Director, Scotiabank Trinidad and Tobago.
In addition to the Zonal Tournament, over 250 young cricketers are benefitting from 11 online modules delivered by a host of highly trained and qualified professionals in their respective fields.

- Goal Setting and Problem Solving
- Child Protection in Youth Programmes
- Leadership and Communication
- Nutrition (With specific focus on West Indian foods and plates)
- Mental Health and Well Being
- Financial Management
- Anti-Doping and Drug Abuse
- Visualization and Discipline
- Fair Play and Citizenship
- Public Speaking and Managing Media
Steven Rousseau, a 14-year-old cricketer from the North Zone indicated “This Programme has been an opportunity for me to grow and develop and become not only a better cricketer, but also a better sportsman and young man. I really enjoyed the online life skills workshops” while Dimitri Ramjattan, a 13-year-old cricketer from the Central Zone commented “By doing the Scotiabank NextGen Cricket Programme, I have a wider knowledge of understanding the life of a professional cricketer. The different modules have helped me with various aspects of day-to-day life.”
Azim Bassarath – President, Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board expressed “We at the TTCB thank Scotiabank for coming up with this new initiative and we’re pleased to continue to partner with them. This new programme greatly assists cricketers in preparing themselves not only for cricket, but holistically and in their future endeavours after cricket. We have even received feedback from many parents who spoke in glowing terms about these online workshops. In the end we will see the results of the programme in these young men who will definitely remember the assistance received in preparing them for life on the whole.”
