Savannah Boys will meet Barataria Ball Players in the North Zone Cricket Council 40 Over final on Sunday 22 May at St. Mary’s Ground, Serpentine Road, starting at 12 noon.
First Semi-Final
Savannah Boys the only unbeaten team in the tournament, disposed of Invincible in their semi-final game played at the Barracks in St. James last Sunday. In the rain-affected match, Invincible was bowled out for 146 in 29.2 overs. Due to rain, the umpires set Savannah Boys a revised total of 98 off 27 overs. Savannah Boys easily achieved the total, scoring 102/3 in 13.5 overs.
The skipper of Savannah Boys Verune Ramnarine was the chief destroyer picking up 4/22 in 4.2 overs, he was assisted by Chateram Ramlal who grabbed 3/10 from 7 overs. Ryan Ali top-scored for Invincible with 36. Ramnarine then returned with the bat to top score with 44.
Second Semi-Final
Barataria Ball Players then created the tournament’s biggest upset, defeating the prolific Police outfit in a closely contested and exciting game at the St. Mary’s Ground. Batting first Police posted 185/5 in 30 overs when the rain came to end their innings. On the resumption, the umpires reduced the target to 155 from 25 overs for the Barataria Ball Players’ run chase.
In the Police innings, Darius Besai top-scored with 67 while Brian Christmas was not out on 51. Joey Samuels took 3/41. When Barataria batted, there was an all-around effort, Teyron Harbin scored 30, Kevis John 23 and Zedy Lord 18, the major contributors.
In the end, Barataria prevailed, getting to the total in 24.3 overs, 156/8 to advance to the North Zone Sunday League Final.
We expect a keenly contested final on Sunday for the $10,000 first prize and Challenge Trophy. 360 TV will stream the match live, the first time a Zone of the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board will achieve this. North Zone Cricket Council is also the only Zone with a website another proud achievement for the zone.
