Half-centuries from Mario Belcon and Adrian Ali led Savannah Boys to a convincing 34-run win over Glenora Sports Club at the Diego Martin Sporting Complex in the North Zone T20 competition on Wednesday evening. Put in to bat first, the opening pair posted a mammoth 133-run first-wicket stand for Savannah Boys.
Belcon powered 59 runs from 43 balls hitting six fours and a six in his time at the crease. Ali smashed 60 runs from 44 balls including seven fours.
When Ali was dismissed midway through the 14th over, they wobbled a bit losing a further three wickets in the space of 20 runs. However, any hopes of Glenora ending the innings on a high were dashed by Mark Sankar and Ravi Naidoo’s unbroken 47-run partnership.
Sankar hit 31 runs from 14 balls while Naidoo finished unbeaten on 17 from eight balls. Savannah Boys posted 200 for four from their 20 overs.
In response, Glenora lost Isaiah Ali early for seven. Any Alexander and Joshua Ramdoo would get the chase back on track with a 47-run stand. However, the scoreboard added a lot of pressure for Glenora Sports Club. Dusty Joseph would top score for his side with 41 while Ramdoo made 35.
However, they would be limited to 166 for seven.
Summary scores: SAVANNAH BOYS: 200/4 (20 OV). A. Ali 60, M. Belcon 59; M. Edwards 1-31; GLOENORA SPORTS CLUB: 166/7 (20 ov). D. Joseph 41, J. Ramdoo 35; A. Ali 2-27. SAVANNAH BOYS won by 34 runs.
