Match Days 12 & 13 – Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th May, 2023
All four matches scheduled for over the weekend in the North Zone Cricket
Council’s T20 competition was affected by the inclement weather with three of
the matches abandoned.
Rain affected Game 13
Police and Glenora had the opening game of the Saturday doubleheader, but only Police got a chance to bat. After winning the toss, Police raced to 206-3 in 17.3 overs. Fans who braved the rains saw Dejourn Charles score one of the fastest centuries for the season, 109 off just 39 balls complete with six 4’s and eleven 6’s. Brandon Ramdial, opening the innings, made 69, but it all came to naught as rain allowed no further play in that encounter.
There was, however, a result in Saturday’s second match between North Coast United and Pol 9 Cricket Club. In a match reduced to 16 overs a side, North Coast prevailed by 49 runs. Batting first, after being sent in, North Coast posted 153-7. Skipper Kendall Guerra promoting himself up the order into the opening spot, made good use of the opportunity with a top score of 64 from 36 balls hitting three 4’s and four 6’s. Darius Padilla 39 and Andre Medina 20 not out also made valuable contributions.
Shaquille Prince was Pole 9’s best bowler with 4-23, Shawn Sakhan and Kareem Hamilton took one each.
In reply, Pole 9 could only muster 104-6 in their sixteen overs with Kareem Hamilton making the only noteworthy contribution. He made 41off 34 deliveries with five 4’s and one 6.
Claude De Vignes bagged 2-23 while Medina, K. Guerra, Akiel Guerra, and Terrance James each picked up one wicket.
Man of the Match – Kendall Guerra.
Unfortunately, no play was possible on Sunday. Both the Savannah Boys/Santa Cruz and the Barataria Ball Players/Shannon encounters were abandoned.
