North defeated East Zone by seven wickets in a low-scoring affair to secure the Point Lisas Steel Products Limited-sponsored TTCB U19 Zonal title on Friday at the National Cricket Center in Couva.
Showers delayed the start of the encounter, but once that cleared, it was on to the most anticipated clash of the tournament.
Batting first after being sent in, East were bowled out for a paltry 97 in 27.3 overs. North
had little trouble overhauling their target, achieving the feat in 16.2 overs, they finished on
101 for the loss of three wickets, to win by 7 wickets.
The Kyle Ramdoo Show
Opener Kyle Ramdoo, who has had a prolific season with the bat, led the chase with an unbeaten 57 off 51 balls, inclusive of 7 fours and 2 sixes. North did not get off to the best of starts losing Isaiah Fernandes, run out for zero with the score on two in the second over. Joshua Davis, North’s captain, batting at number three, contributed ten runs before he was caught off the bowling of Saajid Ragoonanan with the score on 20.
Ramdoo found an able partner in Zachary Siewah, the pair putting on 74 for the third wicket and, despite being the more docile of the two, held down one end while Ramdoo fired on the other. The score was 94 when Siewah departed for 20, Ramdoo dominating the partnership with 52 runs.
Niall Maingot joined Ramdoo in the middle and together saw the “Boys in Blue” home with no further hitch.
Ragoonanan finished with 1-20 off three overs and Jordan Mohammed accounted for the wicket of Siewah with his four overs costing twenty-seven runs.
The lethal North Bowling attack.
Earlier, Joshua James and his namesake Joshua Davis ripped through the East top order
combining for six of the first seven wickets to fall and helping to reduce East to
58-7. East lost their first wicket, Kavir Boodoosing for a duck with the score on nine. Vikash
Ramnath 21 and Samir Samroop 18 put on 32 runs for the second wicket, but Siewah had
Ramnath caught by wicket-keeper Isaiah Fernandes, and that dismissal triggered a massive collapse which saw eight wickets fall for just twenty-seven runs.
Abdur Raheem Toppin and Ethan Apparicio shared in the second-best partnership for East, twenty-nine runs, but Toppin was the last to fall, for 23. Apparicio was left not out on 8.
Bowling for North, James ended with 3-19 and Davis 3-15, Abdullah Cambridge took 2-19 while Abdur Rahman Juman took 1-22. Siewah’s wicket cost him just sixteen runs.
North swept the prizes in the final; Kyle Ramdoo was named Man of the Match and Best
Batsman; Joshua Davis was named Best Bowler and Zachary Siewah copped the prize for Best Fieldsman.
