North Zone T20 Tournament

NORTH ZONE T20 SEMIS BOWL OFF TODAY

The North Zone Cricket Council’s T20 Competition Semi-Finals bowled off on Saturday 03 June, at the Diego Martin Sports Complex. Police will take on Santa Cruz at 2:00 pm, while Savannah Boys will meet Glenora at 6:30 pm.

Santa Cruz booked their spot in the final four with a six-wicket win against North Coast United on Friday. The umpires reduced the match to 15 overs a side because of a damp outfield.

North Coast opted to take first strike after winning the toss and posted 128-5 off their 15 overs with a top score of 32 from opener Darius Padilla. The diminutive Padilla and his captain, Kendall Guerra put on 35 for the first wicket, Guerra, bowled by Donovan Stripp for 22. Unfortunately for North Coast, that opening stand was the best partnership of the innings. The top five batters got into double digits with Anthony Alexander 10, Andre Medina 12, and Akiel Guerra 17 not out. At one point, they were going at just about ten runs per over but when Medina was the third wicket to fall in the ninth over with the score on 80, things slowed significantly. In fact, North Coast could only manage 48 runs from their last 38 deliveries.

Darren Bravo was the most economical, taking 2-11 from three overs. Stripp and Devon Charles picked up one wicket each, while Padilla was the other casualty, run out in the 12th over with the score on 101.

The Tion Webster Show

In reply, Santa Cruz got to the target with three balls to spare for the loss of four wickets. Opening batsman, Tion Webster led the chase with an unbeaten 69 off 42 balls, which included 4 fours and 4 sixes. His opening partner Devon Sween faced two balls, striking one of them for six before being caught by Terrance James off the bowling of Andre Medina.

Santa Cruz captain Darren Bravo struck 4 fours in a less than a run a ball 29 as he was keen to give Webster more of the strike. The guest pair put on 76 for the second wicket before Bravo fell, caught by Anthony Alexander off Claude De Vignes’ bowling. K. Guerra had Alvin Smith caught behind for 18 off eight balls while Keron Raymond and Devon Charles made 2 and 4 not out, respectively.

Medina, Guerra, De Vignes, and Darrell Dennison were the wicket-takers for North Coast.
