Defending champions North were impressive in a 10-wicket win over North-East in their opening match of the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board U19 tournament at Brooklyn Grounds, Sangre Grande, on Thursday.
Joshua Davis took 4 for 15 while Arshad Harrilal had 4 for 28 in bowling out North-East for 112 in 48.2 overs,
Seamer Caiden Mack took 2 for 24 for North, while Avidesh Singh top-scored for North East with 31.
North openers Kyle Ramdoo (61*) and Isaiah Fernandes (45*) made light work of a potentially tricky small target, getting across the line in only 16.4 overs.
It was the perfect opening for the defending champions, who will play East on 18 March in Round 2 of the TTCB U-19 Inter-Zone Tournament.
At Honeymoon Park, Tobago stunned East by 48 runs despite a solid performance by all-rounder Andrew Rambaran.
A Quashie (47) and J Kent (33) put on 72 for the second wicket to power Tobago to 177 for 6 in 25 overs.
Andre Suglal (2/10), Rambaran (2/32) and Rikki Ragoonanan (2/35) all had two wickets apiece for East.
Tobago bowlers M Ramdass (4/26) and X Reid (2/24) would account for six of the wickets to fall as East were restricted to 129 for 9 in their 25 overs.
Rambaran top-scored with 25, while Veeran Bachu had 20 not out in the loss.
At Sancho, St Julien, South-East romped to an 80-run victory over South.
Jonathan Ramnarace (78) produced the highest score of the round in firing South-East to 208 all out in their 50 overs.
Christian Rampersad (25) and Aadian Racha (24) provided a late boost, while Presentation College San Fernando skipper Jacen Agard took 4 for 39 for South.
However, the South run-chase never got going outside of Riyaad Mohammed’s 36.
Christian Rampersad, who helped South-East to the U17 title in 2023, took 5 for 28 to wreck the South batting effort.
Racha chipped in with 2 for 23, while Brian Williams took 2 for 5.
Finally, Central eased past South West by 58 runs at Agostini Park to launch their campaign in style.
Brandon Phillip (44 not out) and Kevin Kanhai (43) did the spade work in the middle order to inspire Central to 219 for 7, the highest team total of the round.
Ranjiv Jagroop took 4 for 18 for South West.
South West struggled to 161 all out in 48 overs with M. Sinanan getting 58, while Ramone Sawh (3/18) was the best bowler for Central.
Alexander Chase (2/21) and Alvin Sonny (2/28) also bowled impressively in the win.
