The National Cricket Centre is the venue for the much anticipated U19 clash between North Zone and Central Zone. The teams will feature in the first of 2 semi-final matches in the Price Club/Tiger Tanks sponsored zonal competition.
North came through the preliminary rounds unbeaten and will be slight favorites going into the game on Wednesday, March 16.
First Round North vs Tobago
Tobago won the toss and elected to bowl first at the spectacular Diego Martin Sporting Facility. North posted 341 all out in 48.2 0vers. Kyle Ramdoo top-scored with 67 while Joshua James 57, Joshua Davis 54, and Zachary Siewah 50 supported well to ensure the competitive score.
Xavier Reid was the in-form bowler for Tobago, picking up 4/49, with Christian Mangra, Keron Ramoutar, Ajani Toney, and Michael Ramdass claiming one wicket apiece.
When Tobago batted, Christian Mangra 45 and Josh Telemaque 43 were the only obstacles in North’s victory push. Tobago eventually being bowled out for 149 in 36.2 overs.
Jaden O’brien excelled with the ball, grabbing 6/30 in 9.3 overs with his leg-spin while Abdullah Cambridge picked up 3/9 in 7.1 overs with his left-arm orthodox.
North winning by 192 runs.
Second Round North vs East
In the second round, played on Monday, March 7, North travelled to the Curepe Recreation Ground for the encounter with East. The two teams over the years have had a keen rivalry, and everyone again expected this.
East won the toss and elected to take first strike. This proved to be an ill-advised decision, as fast bowlers, Joshua James 2/15 of 6 overs and Abdur Rahmaan Juman 2/17 from 6 overs, demolished the top order of the East batting. Only Ravinda Ramlal 22 and Kavir Boodoosingh 16 got to double figures. East bowled out for a paltry 81.
North knocked off the runs in 11.4 overs with Kyle Ramdoo top-scoring with 49 n/o, Zackary Siewah got 23.
North won the contest by 8 wickets.
Third Round North vs North East
This match shifted back to North’s home base, the Diego Martin Sporting Facility, on Thursday 10 March. North won the toss and batted. Sachin Emrit scored a half-century, 56 before he was caught and bowled by Ishmeal Ali as North amassed 276/8 in 50 overs. North also got useful scores from Kyle Ramdoo 48, Joshua James 46, and Joshua Davis 30.
Vasant Singh, Rahul Soodeen, and Ishmael Ali picking up 2 wickets apiece.
When North East batted, they lost wickets regularly to be bowled out for 79. Vashish Maharaj (24) was the only batter to get to double figures.
Opening fast bowler Joshua James took 3/19 from 5 overs, Joshua Davis, with his off-spin, took 2/23 from his 7 overs, while Aditya Ramdeen, Arshad Harrilal, and Abdullah Cambridge grabbed 1 wicket apiece.
The winner of this first semi-final will play the winner of the second semi-final, South vs East.
