North Under 13 will meet South West Under 13 in the semifinals of the Scotiabank NextGen Zonal competition after completing the preliminary round with a 119-run win against North East on Wednesday at Brooklyn Ground in Sangre Grande. Batting first after being sent in, North posted 263-9 from 40 overs and then limited their opponents to 144-8.
Levi Burke and Dylan Lee Chow opened the innings for North and were both dismissed for 2 and 10 inside nine overs. Davis Guerra, batting at number three, shared in two rebuilding partnerships, 48 for the third wicket with Elijah Ashton who made 24 and a game changing 124 with Jean Paul Barrimond for the fourth wicket. Barrimond made 21 before he was bowled by Elijah Fuentes with the score on 213. Guerra missed out on three figures, caught off the bowling of Zaheem Ali for a run a ball 98, and was eventually last man out in the penultimate over with the score on 247. North East did not do themselves any favours with the ball, throwing down 67 wides in a total of 85 extras.
Rishi Lutchmansingh took 3-33, Elijah Fuentes had 3-44, and Ronaldo Mahase and Zaheem Ali picked up one wicket each.
Extras Play a Big Part
North East in reply, benefitted from 86 extras but could not capitalize with the bat as only Elijah Fuentes got into the twenties with a top score of 28. The next best score came from Rishi Lutchmansingh, who faced an amazing 107 deliveries for 15 runs before he was dismissed via the runout route.
Zander Castanada was North’s best bowler with 3-17, Brandon Ramdoo picked up 2-34 and there was one wicket each for Shaheem Khan and Ayden Antoine.
The Zonal Under 13 semi-finals are scheduled for Friday 12 May, with North vs South West taking place at the Greig Street Ground in Balmain while the other semi-final will be contested between East and South East at the National Cricket Center, in Couva.
Both matches are scheduled to start at 10:30 AM.
North Rebound with Big Win
North Under 13 bounced back from a disappointing defeat in their zonal opener with an emphatic 138 run win against Tobago U13 on Friday at the Queen’s Park Oval.
Batting first after winning the toss, North posted 194-3 off 31 overs. They then routed their sister isle opponents for a paltry 56 in 18.4 overs.
Leading the way for North was Davis Guerra with an unbeaten 59. Guerra shared in two significant partnerships, 56 for the second wicket with Abdiel Boland and 85 for the third wicket with Elijah Ashton. Boland contributed 20 and Ashton 41.
For Tobago, F. Finch took two wickets for twenty-three runs and Z. James picked up 1-47. Tobago did not help its cause much with extras adding a whopping 58 runs to the final total.
Tobago, in their reply, were reduced to 12-5 and never recovered. They lost further wickets on 31, two on 33, and were 37-9. No Tobago batter crossed six runs and the North bowlers were also wayward with 40 extras. Shaheen Khan opening the bowling for North, accounted for five of the first six batsmen and finished with figures of 5-14; Zander Castanada was the next best bowler with 3-12; Brandon Ramdoo and E. Ashton claimed one wicket each.
North Lose Under 13 Opener
On Wednesday 3rd May, North went down to their Eastern counterparts by seven runs.
In a much more competitive contest, East won the toss and opted to bat and put up 261-6 of the allotted 40 overs. North made a good fist of the chase and took it close but lost their last wicket with eight runs needed from two balls.
For East, Captain Justin Pamphille, batting at number three, made an unbeaten 115 complete with 12 fours and 1 six. Abdiel Boland picked up 2-35 while the other four wickets were shared evenly between Brandon Ramdoo, Davis Guerra, Aidrees Seepaul, and Zandre Castanada. Extras accounted for 82 runs with bowlers throwing down 62 wides.
In their reply, North got a top score of 64 from Abdiel Boland, with a next best score of 35 from Elijah Ashton. Again, extras played a significant role in the final tally with 81.
Bowling for East, Samir Boodoo took 4-38, while Rayhan Gooding, Zyon Daniel, and Sanjiv Bachu took one each. There were two run-outs in the North innings.
