Brian Charles Lara has signed with Sunrisers Hyderabad for the 2022 IPL season. The West Indies legend will take on the responsibility of the strategic advisor and batting coach for the team.
Lara took to his twitter page to express his gratitude to the Sunrisers.
The Sunrisers finished at the bottom of the table in the 2021 competition and, as a result, has revamped its coaching staff, looking for better results in 2022.
The IPL franchise will depend heavily on the batting superstar to improve on their barren run-scoring form that plagued the team during the 2021 season.
As part of the revamped coaching staff, Tom Moody replaces Trevor Bayliss as coach – Moody was the director of cricket last season. Bayliss parted ways with the franchise after Sunrisers won just three matches out of the 14 matches in the group stage of IPL 2021.
Former South African speedster, Dale Steyn, who retired from all forms of cricket last August, is the pace bowling coach. Steyn was a former playing member of the Sunrisers.
Other changes to the coaching lineup include the appointment of former Australia batter and coach Simon Katich, who was the head coach of the Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL 2021. While Hemang Badani, a former Indian batter, is the fielding coach and scout.
