Vishan Jagessar led a spirited fightback as Savannah Boys came from behind to beat Paragon Sports and Cultural Club in the North Zone T20 tournament on Thursday night at the Diego Martin Sports Complex.
Having been put in to bat first, Savannah Boys collapsed to 25 for five in the first six overs. Kennard Maison and Brent Lezama did much of the damage upfront for Paragon. However, Jagessar would swing the momentum of the game almost single-handedly. He plundered 61 runs from 35 balls, including five fours and four sixes.
Together with Pradeem Ali, he formed a crucial 78-run stand that ultimately saved the Savannah Boys innings. They took the score from 61 for six to 139 for seven. Savannah Boys recovered to post a respectable 152 for nine from their 20 overs.
They would then take that momentum into the second innings of the match. After Nigel Benjamin departed early, Frank Simmons and Earnil Ryan stitched together a 52-run partnership. Simmons struck 44 runs from 40 balls which included four fours and a six.
Ryan provided support with a solid 28. However, when he was gone midway through the innings, the wheels would fall off for Paragon. They consistently lost wickets thereafter. Paragon plummeted from 57 for two to 111 for seven.
Eventually ending on 114 for seven, losing by 38 runs. Verune Ramnarine was the pick of the bowlers for Savannah Boys, with three for 19.
