El Socorro Youth Movement and Pole 9 cemented their respective positions at the top of the North Zone Senior Division and Division One after victories last weekend.
EYM beat Glenora Sports Club by nine wickets to move up to 51 points, ahead of Savannah Boys (25) in second.
North Side Future Stars, Paragon Sports, and QPCC North Zone are all tied in third place on 22 points after two rounds of competition.
Pole 9 also compounded their place at the top of Division One, with an inning and 149 runs victory over Fatima College, to take their tally up to 49 points.
Invincible Cricket Club (28) and Shannon Sports Club (21) are in second and third place respectively.
Round 2 of the Senior Division saw El Socorro Youth Movement, and Savannah Boys taking victories, with the other two matches drawn.
Santa Cruz and QPCC North Zone played to a high-scoring draw, while Paragon took first innings points off North Side Future Stars.
At Boundary Road, Akil Timothy (5/59)and Keon Issac (4/38) combined to bowl out Glenora for 165 with Keon Mason getting 68.
El Socorro just edged past the Glenora total with a first innings effort of 167, with Alex Kassiram getting 49, while Kenroy Williams claimed 6 for 47.
Timothy took 5 for 29 to put El Socorro in a winning position, bowling out Glenora for 73 in their second innings.
Set 72 for victory, Kassiram hit 50 not out off 42 balls to take El Socorro to victory by nine wickets, their second straight win in the tournament.
At Barataria Recreation Ground, Savannah Boys edged past Barataria Ball Players by one wicket in a tense, low-scoring encounter to move into second place.
In a game dominated by the bowlers, Sunil Boochan was the first to make his mark, taking 7 for 9 to bowl out Barataria for 120.
Riaff Ali (31) and Boochan (30) then guided Savannah Boys to 107, with Vaughn Brown snaring 8 for 35.
Barataria then fell for another low score in their second innings (82) with Chateram Ramlal (3/30) and Boochan (2/8) leading the way.
Set 96 for victory, Savannah Boys got 33 from Boochan before the last pair of Ali (15 not out) and Ronald Parmanand (0) took them to a narrow win.
Boochan’s admirable all-round performance allowed Savannah Boys to take 22 points from the encounter to move up to second on 25 points.
At Diego Martin Central Secondary, Paragon Sports and Cultural Club took first innings points off North Side Future Stars, with both teams moving up to third place on 22 points.
Batting first, Paragon was bowled out for 114 with Claude De Vignes taking 4 for 36 and Kendall Guerra 3 for 24.
Paragon bowlers Richard Arneaud (4/32), Justin Hernandez (3/17), and Brent Lezama (3/22) then combined to bowl out North Side Future Stars for 106 to claim first innings honors.
Arneaud (95) and Lezama (48)then put on 104 for the fifth wicket to lead Paragon to 194 all out to bat North Side out of the game.
Guerra (3/32) and Tristan Craig (3/18) were the most successful bowlers for North Side in the innings.
North Side got to 32 for 1 when a draw was agreed upon.
Finally, at the Brian Lara Cricket Ground, Queens Park Cricket Club North Zone took first innings points off home team Santa Cruz in a high-scoring match.
Kwesi Fournillier, batting at number seven, struck 116 for the Parkites to guide them to 307 for 9.
Ravindra Ramlal (49) and Akshay Colai (45) were also among the runs, with Isaiah Hayes taking 2 for 26 for Santa Cruz.
Santa Cruz started poorly before Kashma Mitchell, again batting at number seven, got 116 and Cleon Burnley (41) put them back on track.
However, Dillon Bachan (5/66) did the damage with Yuvvie Kantasingh (2/27) and Matthew Da Costa (2/47) to bowl out Santa Cruz for 261.
QPCC North Zone are also tied for third on 22 points, with Santa Cruz languishing at the bottom of the table with six points from two games.
Turning to Division One, Pole 9 and Invincible earned victories on the weekend, with Bourg Mulatresse CCC and Shannon SC battling to a draw.
The match between Combined All Stars and Ebony Sports Club was postponed as the scheduled venue was unavailable.
At the North Zone Grounds, Queen’s Park Savannah, Pole 9 fired out the Fatima College team for 47 with Ryan Mohammed taking 4 for 13.
Pole 9 then declared their inning on 256 for 8 with Luke Latiff scoring 107 not out off 140 balls.
Nicholas Elliot took 3 for 50 for Fatima while Kaiden Pollard, son of former West Indies star Kieron Pollard, had 2 for 36.
Batting a second time, Fatima was skittled out for 60 with Harry Baldeo (3/12) and Rishi Mannah (3/35) sharing six of the wickets to fall.
Pole 9 reaped 25 points from the game to take their tally up to 49 points, while Fatima could only manage 3 bonus points from the encounter.
At the Queen’s Park Savannah, Invincible beat St Mary’s College by seven wickets in a low-scoring match.
Miguel Mahabir had an incredible game with the ball, taking nine wickets in the match for Invincible.
First, he had 4 for 21 to share the spotlight with Jerome Simpson (4/21) as St Mary’s College fell for 95 all out.
St Mary’s ensured the first innings deficit would not be a large one, bowling out Invincible for 127 with Khalfani Wiltshire taking 5 for 53 and Darriun Ragoo 4 for 30.
Mahabir then returned to take 5 for 26 to help bowl out St Mary’s for 100 to set up a victory target of 69.
Shamir Ali, who also had figures of 2 for 20 and 3 for 11 in the match, struck 44 not out to cinch the run-chase.
Invincible claimed 22 points in the game with St Mary’s claiming 4 bonus points.
Finally, Bourg Mulatresse CCC recovered from a poor start to their campaign to take first innings points off Shannon Sports Club at the Ato Boldon Recreation Ground.
First, Sheldon Homer-Bayley (4/48) and Orlando Toppin (4/53) combined to restrict Shannon to 180 all out despite Waylon George-Joyeau’s 75.
Aaron Dass (72) then helped Bourg Mulatresse to a positive start with Shawn Cort providing some late impetus with four sixes in his 35 to help the San Juan team to first innings points.
George-Joyeau showed off his all-round talents with 3 for 33 in his six overs for Shannon.
Shannon got to 153 for 7 before a draw was called.
The Combine All Stars Sports Club/Ebony Sports and Cultural Club match at the Queen’s Park Savannah was postponed as the venue was unavailable.
Round 3 matches in the North Zone’s Senior Division and Division One are set for 24-25 February.
