North suffered a heavy nine-wicket defeat to East in their opening match of the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board U17 Inter-Zone Tournament.
North was restricted to 176 in 46.4 overs with Mickaeel Ali scoring a half-century and East bowler Qudeer Juman taking 5 for 34.
East openers Samir Saroop and Joseph Mendoza then put on 164 for the first wicket to pace their team to a comfortable victory with 26.2 overs to spare.
East had won the toss and inserted North at the Brian Lara Recreation Ground in Santa Cruz.
North lost Ryan Yearwood (7) early before Ali and Caiden Mack (11) put on a rapid partnership of 50 for the second wicket in only nine overs.
Lewis joined Ali and the pair put on 65 in 116 balls to take North to 124 for 3 as East tightened the screws with the introduction of Juman and Jordan Mohammed.
Juman dismissed Lewis for 33 triggering a batting collapse that would see four wickets going down for 11 runs in the space of 12 balls.
He would dismiss Tyrell Guisepi for 0 before sending back Sayid Mohammed first ball.
Juman would return next over to bowl Ali for 57 to take the wind out of North’s sails.
North would lose their last four wickets for 41 runs with Josiah Nicholls resisting briefly for 10 off 14 balls.
Juman had 5 for 34 in his nine overs, with Mohammed getting 2 for 23 in his 10 overs for East.
North were all out for 176 with 20 balls still unused in the innings.
East openers Saroop and Mendoza started their run-chase with a blistering assault on the North bowlers.
Their opening partnership of 164 came off only 127 balls (21.1 overs) with Saroop going for 89.
He struck 11 fours and three sixes in 67 balls at a strike rate of 132.84.
Mendoza ended on 60 not out off 73 balls with three fours and four sixes
Trevor Padilla was the only successful bowler for North, taking 1 for 36 off 3.4 overs.
With the exception of Caiden Mack (5.0) and Sayid Mohammed (3.0), all the other bowlers went for over eight runs and over.
Juman was duly named Player of the Match for his five-wicket haul.
