Defending Champions Jamaica Wins Thriller against Hosts Trinidad and Tobago in Caribbean Union of Teachers Tournament

On Monday, the Caribbean Union of Teachers (CUT) Les Harris Cricket Tournament bowled off with a thriller at the very modern Diego Martin Sports Facility.

The first match in the tri-series between Jamaica, Guyana, and hosts Trinidad and Tobago went down to the wire with four-time champions Jamaica winning by 5 runs.

Jamaica won the toss and decided to bat, making 167 for 6 in the allotted 20 overs, with Herman Henry 62 in 54 balls, Odain McCatty 32 in 24 balls, and not-out batter, Ricardo McIntosh 42 off 20. Henry hit 10 4’s in his 66 minutes of batting. Taking the wickets for T&T was skipper Malcolm Ramlogan with 2 for 20 off his 4 overs, with an economy rate of 5.0. Lester Hanooman, Reinzo Trotman, Satyam Tam, and Darion Bisnath contributed 1 wicket apiece.

The T&T openers made an impressive start with Adrian Ali amassing 88 off 47 balls, before being stumped, Shiva Rambarran 24  and Darion Bisnath contributing 16 not out. Ali hit 8 fours and 5 sixes.

Two impressive partnerships commenced the T&T innings with a 59-run partnership between Timothy Derry and Adrian Ali and 74 between Shiva Rambaran and Ali. The hosts needed 13 off the last over, but fell antagonizing close to end on 162  for 7.

The pick of the bowling for Jamaica were Herman Henry 2 for 19 in his allotted 4 overs with an economy rate of 4.5 and skipper Keith Hibbert 2 for 7 in 2 overs with an economy rate of 3.50. Shane Cole and Odain Mc Carthy got 1 each.
