West Indies and Trinidad and Tobago wicket-keeper batsman Joshua Da Silva is standing in solidarity with his Trinidad and Tobago citizens on the loss of Andrea Bharatt, who was found murdered, after being abducted on her way home after work on January 29.
Police discovered her body on February 4 over a precipice in the Heights of Aripo, East Trinidad.
Da Silva, the former North Zonal Council TTCB youth player, wore a black armband during his innings in the second Test in Bangladesh and dedicated his knock to Andrea and the women of Trinidad and Tobago.
Joshua took to his Facebook page after his top score of 92 in the West Indies’ first innings score of 409 all out.
“Today was for Andrea and the women of Trinidad and Tobago.” Da Silva said.
“We have been silent and we have allowed too many tragedies to pass in vain. Silence and inactivity are not acceptable anymore. Our voices must be heard and our women must be respected and protected.” He added.
Andrea Bharatt’s funeral took place today, following several nights of candlelight vigils throughout the country, and was attended by family members, friends, and hundreds of citizens who visibly showed their grief and outrage at this recent gruesome act.
“More must be done to educate and teach our men to end the violence against women.
I stand in solidarity with the people of Trinidad and Tobago and with the Bharatt family. Justice for Andrea.” Da Silva said.
