On Tuesday evening, Anthony Alexander’s half-century led Barataria Ball Players to a thumping 51-run victory over Pole 9 in the North Zone T20 competition at the Diego Martin Sporting Complex.
Having been put in to bat first, Barataria Ball Players got off to a flyer but found themselves two wickets down for 41 runs midway through the power play. That’s when Alexander would form a crucial 63-run stand with Marlon Phillip. Alexander top-scored for Barataria Ball Players, hitting 50 runs from 29 balls. His knock included seven fours and a six.
When Phillip was out for 27, Alexander would form another partnership with Vaughn Browne. It was worth 55 runs and though losing Browne for 23 would lead to a mini-collapse in the final five overs, Joey Samuel’s cameo of 40 runs from 31 balls led Barataria Ball Players to 199 for eight from their 20 overs. Rishi Mannah had four for 39 for Pole 9.
Despite losing Aaron Alfred without a run on the board, wicket-keeper Johnathon Narine and Ramesh Ramdeen pieced together a 53-run stand to get the chase off. Narine smacked 24 runs from 22 balls hitting five boundaries while Ramdeen made 19 from 17. However, when Narine was trapped LBW by Aaron Francois, Pole 9’s middle-order caved in.
Suddenly, they collapsed to 62 for four. Riaz Mohammed battled back with a run-a-ball 42, but the task was too much for him. Barataria limited pole 9 to 148 for eight losing by 51 runs.
