Today, the International Cricket Council confirmed that the West Indies, together with the United States of America, will host the Men’s 2024 T20 World Cup. June is the confirmed month of the tournament.
The article on their website confirmed the host nations for every major ICC men’s limited-overs event between 2024 and 2031.
West Indies last staged the T20 event in 2010, but will now have for the first time the USA as the co-host for an ICC event.
The Caribbean is no stranger to this arrangement, as the Caribbean Premier League has used the USA during the 2016 tournament.
The report said Pakistan will host the Men’s Champions League, 8 months later, in February 2025. It will be the first major global cricket tournament played in Pakistan since 1996 when they hosted the Men’s Cricket World Cup alongside India and Sri Lanka.
India and Sri Lanka will host the Men’s T20 World Cup in 2026.
ICC also made a major announcement, Namibia will be the first-time major event host in 2027, of the Men’s T20 World Cup alongside Zimbabwe and South Africa. South Africa and Zimbabwe last staged the event in 2003.
Australia and New Zealand will host the T20 World Cup in October 2028 and 12 months later India will host the Champions Trophy.
England will share T20 World Cup hosting duties with Ireland and Scotland in 2030. It will be the first time since 1999 that Ireland and Scotland have hosted a major global cricket event.
The final scheduled event, in October/November 2031, will be the Men’s Cricket World Cup, played in India and Bangladesh.
President of the West Indies Cricket Board Ricky Skerritt, CWI and ICC Board member said:
“CWI welcomes this announcement by the ICC. It means simply that the Caribbean has been handed another opportunity, in 2024, to host a premier world cricket event. And this time it will be in partnership with our neighbours to the north, USA Cricket, led by my colleague Paraag Marathe. We know that our strategic partnership has helped ICC to accept our bid, and we must soon get to work to make this exciting ICC decision a truly successful one for all concerned.”
