Indra Ramsingh Geoffroy is in the UAE for the ICC T20 Men’s World Cup. Let’s follow her through this amazing experience.
A Trini’s experience at the ICC T20 World Cup.
Left Dubai around 12.10 pm, we had a few stops before carpooling on the way to the match, Windies vs. Bangladesh.
The heat and sun after walking from the carpark to Gate 1 to collect our tickets were tolerable.
The red carpet walk-through the entrance nicely decorated with palms and well-dressed security and cricket officials and ushers. As we entered, we saw the team buses; so you know we felt privileged. The noise from the Bangladesh supporters was already coming from the inside.
Awesome ambience as we made it to our seats, the boys were already warming up and going through their pre-game session. For a little while, it felt a bit intimidated as we saw no other Windies supporters except for the families of the cricketers. But then we saw another group in another stand and made the connection with them.
The atmosphere charged up as we joined in the singing of Rally Round De West Indies. The game went through its ups and downs but after Nicolas Pooran began to bat in his renewed form, we felt comfortable enough. The score was small, but we were rallying right through.
As usual, the team put us through the normal stress, but the tiny bit of supporters could be heard encouraging the team.
I liked the ambience and intimacy of the Sharjah Cricket Stadium as it lent a kind of coziness.
We rallied in the “Gold” Pavilion, lunch and all. The traffic to return did not deter us. We had a great time. Abu Dhabi next.
