Trinidad and Tobago’s LaDonna Williams, CWI’s Digital Manager along with Amanda Reifer, a senior sports administrator from Barbados, have been named among 40 women from 29 ICC Member countries to be mentored as part of the ICC 100% Cricket Future Leaders Programme.
The Programme is designed to support emerging female talent in cricket and forms part of the ICC’s long-term commitment to accelerating the growth of women’s cricket and women in cricket. The ICC received more than 300 applicants from 45 different countries, which was an overwhelming response.
Williams said: “I am truly excited and honoured to be placed in the inaugural edition of the ICC’s 100% Cricket – Future Leaders Programme.”
“I look forward to being mentored by Gemma Davies who’s extensively experienced in the field of Digital Content and Communications. As her mentee, I plan to glean from her and apply these insights to our operations at Cricket West Indies.” Williams continued.
LaDonna Williams has been employed with the West Indies Cricket Board since September 2018 as the Digital Manager.
Reifer said: “I am extremely humbled and excited to be selected as a mentee for the ICC 100% Cricket – Future Leaders Programme.“
Reifer is a fulltime employee in the Marketing and Business Development department at The University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus.
“I want to thank CWI for endorsing my application. I intend to make full use of this opportunity to share all that I will learn to the benefit of West Indies cricket,” Reifer added.
Claire Furlong General Manager, Marketing and Communications at ICC said the response from the global cricket community and all Member boards were fantastic. There was an overwhelming number of applications from 45 countries spanning all five ICC regions said Furlong.
The philosophy of the 100% Cricket – Future Leaders Programme is to be participant lead, with the ICC acting in support to match the mentees with suitable mentors and provide guidelines and evaluation frameworks for the participants and opportunities to network and interact.
The programme will last for a period of six months and include a kick-off workshop with Belinda Clark, followed by monthly check-ins and a three-month review with the mentees and mentors agreeing on the frequency and method of communication.
Wonderful initiative! I’m a firm believer that more women should embrace leadership in West Indies cricket.
Leaders are in anyone’s DNA nor can find them in the local supermarket. Leaders are created by programs like these that take the emerging talents from persons who are willing take these opportunities. We can only benefit from this approach.
