North Zone women whip BSCA by 127 runs

The North Zone Academy women’s team turned in their most dominant performance of the season to beat the Brenda Solozano Cricket Academy (BSCA) by 127 runs on Sunday, 13 April, at the Ben Lomond Recreation Ground.

Naomi Ali scored the first half-century for the North Zone team to plunder 181 for 1 in 16 overs.

North Zone’s bowling unit then restricted BSCA to 54 for 2 in their 16 overs to win by 127 runs.

With the win, North Zone returned to winning ways after their defeat against the Victoria Cricket Club in the last round.

At Gasparillo, Ali and Daniel produced the best opening partnership of the season for the North Zone women’s team with 88 in 8.3 overs.

Daniel was the only batter to be dismissed, going for 35 off 26 balls with seven fours.

Ali and Seraiah Kawalsingh then added 93 off 7.3 overs in an unbroken second-wicket stand, the best partnership overall for the season for their team.

Ali ended on 69 not out from 55 balls with 10 fours, and Kawalsingh was 44 not out from 29 balls with five fours.

Trishala Dwarika took the only wicket to fall to end with figures of 1 for 42.

North Zone women also benefited from 33 extras with 19 wides and 14 no-balls.

The North Zone Academy women’s team then restricted the BSCA to only 18 runs scored off the bat as they ended on 54 for 2 in their 16 overs.

Farhannah Shamer and Arianna Khan (2) put on 33 for the first wicket, before Jessica Davis dismissed the latter.

Nirmala Latchmansingh was run out for 7, when the game was well and truly over with 14.4 overs gone.

Opener Shamer ended with 9 not out off 56 balls, while Dwarika was not out on 0 off only 3 balls.

BSCA’s total was improved by 36 extras with 27 wides.

Davis had 1 for 12 off four overs for the North Zone Academy women’s team.

Their 127-run victory was easily their biggest of their inaugural season in the Trinidad and Tobago Women’s Cricket Association T20 tournament.
