El Socorro Youth Movement (EYM) can clinch a place in the final of the North Zone 40-over tournament with a victory over Barataria Ball Players on Saturday at Barataria Recreation Ground.
EYM whipped Shannon Sports Club by 183 runs in Round 5 for their fourth straight win and will face a Barataria team that defeated Paragon Sports Club by six wickets last weekend.
El Socorro, which has already clinched the league title and a place in Premiership II for the season, can now book a place in the 40 over final with a match to play.
In other Group B fixtures on the weekend, third-placed QPCC North Zone are also in the hunt for a win when they face Invincible Sports Club at the Brian Lara Recreation Ground.
Shannon Sports Club comes up against Ebony Sports Club at Boundary Road, with both teams without a realistic chance of clinching a top spot in the tournament.
In Group A, leaders Santa Cruz Sports Club can also seal a place in the final with a win over Combine All Stars at home at the Brian Lara Recreation Ground.
With second-placed Savannah Boys on a bye, third-placed Glenora Sports Club will take on fourth-placed North Side Future Stars in a critical encounter at Barataria Recreation Ground.
Pole 9 and Bourg Mulatresse CCC meet in the other match at Boundary Road, with both teams out of the running.
In Round 5 action on the weekend, EYM earned their fourth win in a row with a dominating 183-run win over Shannon Sports Club at Boundary Road on Sunday .
Kwesi Alfred spanked 145 not out, while Alexander Kassiram got 85 in EYM’s 307 for 7 in only 31 overs.
Dominic Andrews and Akil Timothy then led the victory charge with 3 for 15, and 3 for 24 respectively.
At Boundary Road, Invincible earned a 125-run win versus Ebony, after sterling contributions by Tristan Jackman (39 not out) and Kaiden Pollard (38).
Kalfani Wiltshire, Miguel Mahabir, and Samuel Langton then had identical figures of 2 for 12 to inspire Invincible to a 125-run triumph.
At Barataria Recreation Ground, Barataria Ball Players warmed up for their clash with EYM with a six-wicket win over Paragon Sports Club.
Iqwe Craig hit 75 in Paragon’s modest 144 for 9, with Vaughn Browne (2/16) and Quammie Mohammed (2/37) showing their prowess with the ball.
Barataria Ball Players romped to 145 for 4 in 22.2 with Zedy Lord (57) and Marlon Phillip (34*) dominating the batting card in a six-wicket win.
In Group A, at the Brian Lara Recreation Ground, former West Indies batsman Darren Bravo returned to action for Santa Cruz in a crushing 155-run win over Bourg Mulatresse CCC.
Alvin Smith (93), George Malchan (77), and Bravo (62) struck half-centuries in Santa Cruz’s 263 for 4 in 33 overs.
Christopher Kashma Mitchell (3/8), Keron Raymond (2/8), and Bravo (2/17) were the main wicket-takers, as Santa Cruz stayed on top of Group A.
On Saturday at the Santa Cruz venue, Vishan Jagessar smashed 100 not out off only 44 balls to fire Savannah Boys to 280 for 7 in 29 overs.
Despite Frank Simmons’ 57 and 47 not out from Ray Campbell, Savannah Boys limited Combine All Stars to 187 for 8 with Pradeem Ali taking 4 for 27.
Finally, at Barataria Recreation Ground, North Side Future Stars ended Pole 9’s already-slim hopes of making it up the points standings with a 101-run victory.
North Side’s 206, dominated by Akiel Guerra’s 54, was enough to force the victory.
Junior James (3/11) and Kendall Guerra (3/24) applied the finishing touches to close out the win for North Side.
Round 6, the penultimate round of play in the preliminary round of the North Zone 40-over tournament, is on 11-12 May.
