El Socorro Youth Movement romped to the top of the Senior Division of the North Zone Cricket Council after beating Santa Cruz Sports Association in the opening round of the league tournament.
Kwasi Alfred spanked 143, while Robert Brown (80) and Keon Issac (62 not out) hit fifties in EYM’s total of up 400 for 8 in 52 overs.
Rockey Rajkumar took 3 for 64 as the Santa Cruz bowlers struggled to contain the El Socorro batters.
A rampant EYM then rolled out Santa Cruz for 110 and 134 to win the match by an innings and 156 runs.
EYM’s Akil Timothy took 3 for 26 and 6 for 25 in the match, while Yohan Sirjoo snared 3 for 9 when Santa Cruz batted in their first innings.
Alvin Smith top-scored with 26 and 55 for Santa Cruz Sports in the loss.
The other three matches played in the Senior Division ended in draws, catapulting El Socorro Youth Movement to the top of the table.
At Diego Martin Central Secondary School, Queens Park Cricket Club and Paragon Sports Club played to a draw, with Paragon taking first innings points.
Paragon totaled 168 in their first innings with Brent Lezama(72) and R Arneaud (57) notching half-centuries.
Lezama then led the way with the ball, taking 5 for 33 to bowl out QPCC for 166, just two runs shy of the Paragon total.
R Ramlal top-scored with 60 for the Parkites with A. Colai getting 23.
Paragon closed on 64 for 3 before a draw was agreed with A Burke taking 3 for 18, after getting 5 for 29 in the first innings.
At Sweet Revenge Grounds, North Side Future Stars took first innings points in a drawn match with Savannah Boys.
The North Side team totaled 183 before bowling out Savannah Boys for 111 to take the points.
Darius Padilla scored 68 and Kendell Guerra 47 for North Side, while Chateram Ramlal had figures of 3 for 19 for Savannah Boys.
Riaff Ali top scored with 42 for Savannah Boys, with Darrell Dennison taking 4 for 24 for North Side.
North side were then bowled out for 100 with Aneesh Sookoo taking 4 for 24, leaving Savannah Boys with 173 to win.
Savannah Boys got to 83 for 5 with Sameer Ali getting 40 before the draw was agreed upon.
Finally, Barataria Ball Players wrested first innings points off home team Glenora Sports Club at the Queen’s Park Savannah in another drawn match.
Vaughn Brown stroked 62 in Barataria’s 187 for 9 with Keon Mason taking 5 for 25.
Carl Vialva continued his fine form with the ball, taking 5 for 30 to bowl out Glenora for 152 despite Andy Alexander’s 41.
Barataria also turned in a solid batting performance in their second innings scoring 171 for 8 with Joey Samuel getting 66 not out.
Andy Alexander had a fine all-round game taking 5 for 51 for Glenora.
Chasing 207 for victory, Glenora raced to 71 for 2 in 10 overs before a draw was declared.
Isaiah Ali hit a quick-fire 45 not out in the draw for Glenora.
