After cruising to the North Zone Cricket Council’s League Title, Police made it two in two over the weekend defeating former champions Barataria Ball Players by five wickets in the 40 Over finals at the Brian Lara Recreation Ground in Santa Cruz.
Barataria Post Strong Score
In Sunday’s title match, which was reduced to 35 overs per side, Barataria were put in to bat and posted a respectable 201 for 7. Carl Vialva and Kevis John were the mainstays of the Barataria innings sharing in a third wicket partnership of 73 before John was the first of four wickets for Brian Yearwood, caught and bowled for 50. Yearwood, in his very next over, had Joey Samuel out for 2 and also removed Vialva for a top score of 55. Marlon Phillip was not out on 42 and was involved in two 30-plus partnerships with Vialva and Vaughn Browne to help Barataria over the 200 run mark Yearwood finished with figures of 4-38 from six overs while Dion Wells had 2-30 and Damien Brown took 1-28.
Police Onslaught
In their turn at bat, the Police openers Brian Yearwood and Brandon Ramdial made sure the lawmen got off to a strong start putting on 79 for the first wicket. Ramdial was the first to fall caught off the bowling of Marlon Phillip for 38. Brian Christmas joined Yearwood and the two Brians added a further 62 runs for the second wicket, that of Yearwood who was caught Vialva Bowled John for a well played 63. Christmas was eventually out for 47 but Stephen Wharwood with 21 and Darius Besai 21 not out ensured that Police would reach their target without any major hiccups. Kerron Simmons was the other not-out batsman on 9 and stayed with Besai to see Police over the line.
For Barataria, Vaughn Browne and Marlon Phillip took two wickets each while Kevis John picked up one.
Brian Yearwood was named Man of the Match for his half-century and four wickets.

During the prize-giving ceremony, 2 lucky mothers received tokens of appreciation as the North Zone celebrated with them on Mother’s Day. Shirley Lewis was presented with a hamper courtesy VEMCO while Curleen Stewart received a hamper courtesy Milo Caribbean. The North Zone also presented a young Fan of the Match with a Sunshine Snacks hamper.
Police will now be looking to end their North Zone campaign on a further high by adding the T20 title to the list of trophies for 2023. The North Zone T20 competition is currently underway at the Diego Martin Sporting Complex.
