On Friday, the North Under 17s defeated North East by 66 runs at the Brooklyn Recreation Ground in Sangre Grande.
Batting first after winning the toss, North were restricted to 153 all out in 40.2 overs, on a heavy outfield which saw boundaries difficult to achieve, their lowest total of the competition, and the first match in which they failed to bat out the 50 overs.
It was a disciplined bowling performance from North East with Dimitri Maranda leading the attack, taking 4-19 in ten miserly overs. Ishmael Ali supported well with 3-26 while Dontae Stewart had 2-19 and Nashayn Bethelmy took 1-13. The best batsman for North was Maleek Lewis with 40.
North East demolished
North East, in reply, got off to a poor start and were reduced to 12-3 in 6.2 overs. A recovery of sorts saw them reach 37 before the fourth wicket fell, but disaster struck when they lost four wickets for four runs and never recovered, eventually all out for 87 in 22.5 overs.
All the bowlers got into the wickets column, with Arshad Harrilal taking an impressive 3-4 in four overs. Aditya Ramdeen took 2-16 and Dominic Redhead picked up 2-20. Adrian Mahase, Aakash Shavti, and Darius Popalie were the other wicket takers, with one each. Dontae Stewart, with 25, and Ismael Ali 20 were the only North East batters to get into double digits.
Maleek Lewis was named Man of the Match.
North will now meet South East in the first of two semifinals on Wednesday 22 March at the National Cricket Centre, Couva. Central Zone will meet East Zone in the other semifinal game, to be played at the Inshan Ali Park in Preysal.
