North U19 2023

RAMDOO SCORES TON AS NORTH ZONE DOMINATES UNDER 19 OPENER

A double century opening stand between Isaiah Fernandes 73 and Kyle Ramdoo 109 lay the foundation for the North Zone U19’s total of 264-4 off 49.5 overs against the North East U19’s on Thursday 2nd March, at the Brian Lara Recreation Ground in Santa Cruz.

After a rain delay, the North East U19s were set a revised target of 211 in 32 overs but never came close as they were bowled out for 76 in 25.2 overs, the North U19s winning by 134 runs under the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method.

Batting first after winning the toss, Fernandes and Ramdoo carved out a 212 run partnership for the first wicket with Ramdoo the more aggressive, scoring his runs off 120 deliveries, striking eight 4s and two 6s, while Fernandes got his runs off 125 balls which included seven boundaries.

Ramdoo was the first to go, caught by Tyrece Boodoo off the bowling of Vassant Singh with the first delivery of the 41st over. Six balls later Fernandes departed, bowled by Amraav Kistow with the score on 214. Kistow picked up his second wicket when Zachary Siewah was trapped LBW for 2 with the score on 222 and Singh had his brace when Joshua Davis was caught by Aravinda Singh for 14. The pair of Sachin Emrit 11 and Joshua James 22 added 34 runs when play was curtailed with one ball left in the 50 over allotment.

Singh finished with 2-38 from 9 overs and A. Kistow ended with 2-42 from 10 overs. The North East Bowlers did themselves no favours conceding 33 extras inclusive of 27 wides.

North-East reply:

In their turn at the crease, North East got off to a terrible start losing Rahul Soodeen for duck, bowled by Abdur-Rahman Juman with the score on 1 in the first over. It quickly became 9-2 when A. Kistow was caught off the bowling of Joshua James for 7. Aidan Lackansingh and Vasant Singh then stitched together a 28-run partnership, North East’s biggest of the innings, before a steady procession back to the pavilion started. Singh fell for 7 and Joseph Fraser for a duck, both falling with the score on 37. Lackansingh fell for a top score of 19, with the score on 46. Three wickets fell with the score on 56, Joshua Davis accounting for Tyrece Boodoo, no score and Aravinda Singh and Mikhi Dyer falling to Abdullah Cambridge off successive deliveries in the 19th over. Yuvraj Singh was run out for 11 and Adrian Ramlal remained not out on 1.

For North, all six bowlers used got into the wickets’ column with James, Davis, Singh and Cambridge picking up two wickets apiece and Juman and Jaden O’brien taking one each.

For his century, Kyle Ramdoo was named Man of the Match.
